These student-centered projects link real-world applications to content, and they focus on critical thinking. Students use the Cartesian Coordinates system to travel around a pirate's world and then create their own journeys. They engage in deeper learning by building on their adventures, and they have a lot of fun along the way. To differentiate, I created the Build a Resume project as one of many project tools including comic book and picture book projects. Here, students create a resume for a literary or historical figure as part of a research project. They learn the practical skills of writing resumes while conducting critical analyses of important people or characters. All the curriculum is student-tested and student-approved. The students are always the inspiration and at the center of the learning.
