How to Get Your Students to Work Independently
"When it comes to end-of-the-year activities, I am exhausted and frankly pretty averse to lectures of any kind," says Teacher-Author GilTeach. "On the other hand, students have come a long way in their skills and adherence to classroom routines and expectations." That's where independent projects come in.

The first year I taught AP Spanish, I panicked. Could I teach my students how to write a persuasive essay if I didn’t know how to write one? I searched the Internet extensively but found no quality resources to help me. So, I created my own materials to help my students succeed on the exam. They did so well that the program grew from just a few students to 25. During the five years I taught AP, all but one of my students passed, mostly with 4s and 5s. My TPR Stories also helped my students become proficient.
