How This Middle School Teacher Unlocked More Funds for Her Classroom
Keira Lebrón, a 6th and 7th grade teacher from Puerto Rico, suffered through hurricane Maria in 2017. "Since then, my finances have been a big struggle," she says. As an 8th grade math teacher, I always joke that I teach everyone's favorite age and everyone's favorite subject. Most people take that as sarcasm. But if you have engaging activities where students can find success, you can change students' attitudes toward math — attitudes that may have been around a long time. I engage students by getting them up and moving, by playing games, and by helping them organize and assess their learning. So though I know it's not everyone's favorite age, I'm working on making it my students' favorite subject.
