Black History Month: Getting Beyond Dr. King
"For any topic, especially African-American History, I think it's critical to share the past in relation to the present and future," says Teacher-Author Tanesha B Forman. "It is my hope that students will not come to me tired of the(ir) past, but rather inspired and poised to have an impact."

My biggest goal as an educator is to create learning experiences for my students that not only challenge them to think critically, but also give them the confidence to take risks. Creating an environment where students understand that mistakes are not bad and that mistakes can teach life lessons is essential to students' growth. This is one reason that students' reflections are an integral part of every lesson I create. In addition, each of my students brings different skill sets and abilities to my classroom. It is my job to create lessons that are differentiated and designed to meet the individual needs of each student while they work towards mastering specific skills. My resources provide opportunities for students to achieve these goals through collaboration, scaffolded activities, research-based strategies, and the use of technology.
