My teaching philosophy revolves around the idea that students learn from story-tellers. As teachers, we weave tales of academia, but there is no silence greater than when a class is listening to an anecdote. No matter the learning area, I try to incorporate story-telling: English, metaphors of life; Science, advancements through trial and error; Mathematics, how y = mx + c is everywhere. My graphic organizers in particular lend themselves well to developing those connections to prior knowledge and understanding and students, when exposed to a teacher's stories, learn so much more than a "mitochondria is the power house of a cell."
